Wall tiles come in an endless array of sizes, colours and patterns, making wall tile panelling a design element very much used from ancient times.

Suitable for any decor style, either Traditional, Contemporary or Eclectic, Victorian or Mediterreanean, wall tiles seems to remain always in fashion, bringing in our homes a splash of color and spark.

If we refer at the different ways of creating wall tile panelling, two displays come to mind right away: wall tiles and backsplashes.

And you are right: these two are the most used ways of having wall tile panelling.

There are different ways for laying out wall tiles:

  • The most used and elegant way for a bathroom, for example, remains tiling all the walls. From the bottom to the top of the wall you can install tiles, having in an instant, a timeless good look!
  • A second option, very often used as well is creating tile panels. Either you can have a backsplash area tiled, above the kitchen counter, or in a niche. Think of wall tile paneling above, or around the fireplace, accentuating it and bringing in that area highlights of colour.

There is a lot to add here: you can either choose a "pre-made" design and color, or if you want something unique you can go with a "custom look". Lots of companied will ofer custom designs and hand painted scenery for tile panels.
Themes most used in kitchen would have a "wine and cheese" theme, or a "fruit basket". Suitable, and with stunning effects for a dining room is a French or Tuscan theme.

  • A third option is to have accent tiles. Where and how can they be used:

  • They can be used in a bedroom, to complete a mediterranean style decor.
  • Accent tiles suits very well in a country living room, to accentuate the top part of a fireplace.
  • In a bathroom with a big mirror you can use accent tiles also, with a two-three inch gap in between, having the rest of the wall painted in the your choice of colour.
  • More and more, accent decorative wall tiles are used to cover stairs risers, combining beauty and utility.
