These will get you the most out of the color and patterns you chose.

We put together some helpul ideas for each room when choosing wallpaper, and we also brought forward tricks to highlight the best features of your house, and put in the background any eventual structural "defects".

Tricks For Each Room

Bedroom

  • Because bedroom is used for rest and retreat, it would be beneficial to choose a subtle palette that aids relaxation; you can still enjoy a bright pattern or bright colors as accents. Get a dramatic design for one wall, and leave the others with a more subtle design.
  • Living Room

  • If you opted for a neutral scheme in your living room, get a bold pattern for a feature wall. If you're lucky to have a large one, you can set for a bold pattern all over, otherwise set for more restful patterns.
  • Kitchen

  • Kitchen is one of the rooms where a family spends lots of time, so warm colors are at home here. A small pattern, flowers or leaves will cheer up the space.
  • Dining Room

  • This a more formal room, so getting stripes or geometrical patterns would suit best. The use of a warm palette would stimulate appetite :).
  • Multi-functional room - Contemporary setting

  • Blend different textures in your wall paper designs; this will help highlighting the areas you have in it: an office setting or a dining space.

  • Tricks To Be Successful With Your Wall Paper Designs

Ultimately the design you will choose it's a matter of personal choice, but taking in considerations these ideas will make your choice easier:
    • Try and avoid getting more than three key colors. If you opted for a pattern, it will be easier to match the colors from the pattern and make them work well together
    • If you love pattern, avoid to over-mix them. Limit the wallpaper and fabric patterns to three. Either focus at one color that is common to all three, or a common pattern or motif to all of them.
    • A big room will easily accomodate a large pattern and darker colors. Because the colors will absorb light, the room will appear cozier and inviting. A large print adds drama and visual interest.
If you have northern exposure, thus less light in the room, get wallpaper in rich golds or deep reds.
    • For a small apartment room, you can still use wallpaper, but set for small prints, and light colors; the space will look bigger and the room more spacious.
    • High ceilings can be easily disguised with wallpaper in a dark color or with a complicated pattern. Keep light colors for a lower ceiling to make it appear higher than it is.
Another way of getting the ceiling to appear higher is to use vertical stripes or pattern.
    • To get the same overall look without repeating the same pattern in each room, choose wallpapers from the same "family". At the store they are easy to spot, because they sit all together in the same book at the wallpaper store.
    • If you want to extend the width of a narrow hallway or room, use a horizontal pattern for your wall paper designs. Just bear in mind though, if the walls are not true or square, the pattern will draw attention to it.
    • Think how you will connect different rooms: either have the common colors or common pattern motifs to have "flow".
