Art Collecting and Art Display

"Nobody can give you advice after you've been collecting for a while.
If you don't enjoy making your own decisions, you're never going to be much of a collector anyway -
Charles Saatchi(British art collector and founder of Saatchi and Saatchi)"

Make Art Collecting & Art Display - Your Hobbies!

Whether is your favourite oil painting, acrylic or watercolor, a painting will give your rooms the finishing touch, and will add character to your space. Art display can instantly warm up any room, and show up your personality.

Tips on Art Collecting:

  • Buy art that you love, and enjoy looking at it. Don't think of it solely as an investment. It has to represent your taste, so don't be afraid to show it.
After all, you will be the one looking at it the most!
  • Develop your "eye" for art, by going to museums or art galleries. If you don't have either the time or money to go to a gallery, go the closest library and borrow some art magazines. And of course, don't underestimate the power of Internet: lots of galleries are now available "on-line".So all you need is to open your computer and start browsing!
  • Collect original art for its richness and added depth, rather than prints. An original painting has texture and volume, and colours are rich.
If your budget is kind of tight, and you have to settle for a print, choose a high quality canvas print.
  • Acquire pieces painted by unknown or emerging artists- often you can find them at a reasonable price.

Sometimes is difficult and confusing to find out what is the best way of hanging your newly bought art, whatever that is: either an original painting or a print or even a photo nicely framed. We wanted to save you time, so... we did some research, and put together a list with most usual ways to hang art:

Tips on Art Display:

  • If you have large walls, you might want to display one very large piece of art, or a few large ones. Avoid displaying one small picture,it will look lost on the wall.

By hanging them behind a couch, or above a sideboard, you will create a focal point for the room.
  • If you have four or more pictures, the same size, hang them on a pattern, using the technique called grouping. Leave the same space between them. Try groups of four, five, or six.

  • If you have four very small paintings, use oversized mats and frame them. The effect will be dramatic!

  • If you have a long hallway, you can hang art in a gallery style. Everybody can walk, and admire each piece!
  • If you have wallpaper, hang art that complements the wall. Pay more attention if the wallpaper has a pattern in it! Try a mat or a frame in one of the colors from the pattern.

  • If you want make your ceiling appear higher, stack your paintings one on top of the other. Don't forget that the first painting should hang quite low.
